Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in television, film and the theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer in the Showtime show Soul Food. Following her wedding, she was Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since when she was a child and won a Best Actress award in an Maryland high school contest. Contractor, a Mumbai-born Indian and who was a resident of Nigeria since she was seven years old, had a lot of knowledge about the world's cultures, and traveled extensively even at a very young age. From the age of seven until nine, Contractor attended boarding schools in London. Her family then moved to Toronto and she resided there throughout her early years. After 92 performances, she received glowing reviews. The play was deemed the best production in Canada by reviewers. Contractor accepted an invitation to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. Only eight men selected and four females accepted for a 20-week intensive course of classical theater. Contractor got a confirmed slot for the following season.
